Deadvlei is a small clay pan surrounded by dunes in the Namib Desert in Namibia. A distinctive feature of Deadvlei is the large number of dead camelthorn trees (Vachellia erioloba) in its northwestern half. Due to the extreme aridity, they decompose very slowly and thus remain preserved for a long time.
